Required reading / watching: NYT Opinion | I Was the Fastest Girl in America, Until I Joined Nike

Video by Lindsay Crouse and Alexander Stockton in the New York Times. Video accompanies the article I Was the Fastest Girl in America, Until I Joined Nike, in Opinion.

It sucks that it takes much time, work, resources, presumably money and moxie/courage for a girl or woman to tell her story and be heard by the audience that needs to hear it.

But, I’m glad there are platforms out there ready to share them.

This New York Times Opinion piece is Mary Cain, at 23, finding the right time to finally be able to speak out about her experience stepping into the Nike Oregon Project system and being coached by Alberto Salazar as a 17-year-old girl.

What follows in her story is unfortunately not an uncommon experience for girls and women in the sport.

Thank you to Mary Cain for doing the important, but hard emotional work of sharing her story and bringing this to light in service of other girls and women in the sport.

Thank you to Lindsay Crouse & @NYTOpinion for giving this such a big platform.

And thank you to @karagoucher and @laurenfleshman for always speaking up for the sport.
